Claude for Word Workshop
Learn to use Claude inside Microsoft Word and deliver AI edits with tracked changes and full human editorial control.
Get three hours of live training from AI for Editors across two hands-on sessions. Real documents, tested techniques, and prompts and Claude skills ready to use the same day.
More of your work. Less of your time.
Think about the tasks that eat the most time:
-
scoping before you start
-
running a consistency pass
-
checking cross-references and facts
-
flagging for author review
-
drafting responses to author queries
You do these on every project—manually or copy/pasting from AI. You have Claude. But you're using it for 10% of what it can do.
This workshop teaches you the other 90%: how to use Claude inside Microsoft Word, with tracked changes, in a way that keeps you in control.

Why Editors Choose This Workshop
Work without switching tabs.
Claude for Word keeps your AI inside the document where you're already working. No copying, no pasting, no reformatting.
Prompts ready on day one.
Session 1 ends with a prompt set built for real editorial tasks. Install the add-in in the morning; use it on a project that afternoon.
Tools that outlast the workshop.
In Session 2, you'll build a skill: a reusable instruction set that makes Claude edit consistently on every project, without re-prompting.
What You'll Learn
Session 1 – Getting Started and Simple Prompting
Get Claude for Word installed and immediately useful. In this hands-on session, you'll orient yourself to the add-in and learn and then learn entry-level uses: 1) asking questions about a document with clickable citations that jump you directly to the source; 2) generating a pre-edit summary so you scope before you touch a word; and 3) running a basic mechanical editing pass with tracked changes. You'll also see how to control Claude's editing by having Claude flag suggestions instead of make edits, insert queries in a consistent format, and even draft replies to author comments.
Session 2 — Advanced Prompting and Building Claude Skills
Build on what you learned in Session 1 and turn your best prompts into repeatable tools. You'll work through two advanced workflows: cross-reference checking and two-channel editing, where mechanical fixes go in as tracked changes but judgment calls go in as queries. Then you'll learn how to make a simple Claude skill (a reusable instruction that tells Claude to behave consistently, every time, without re-prompting) and see what's possible with a custom style guide skill that automatically applies organization-specific rules in minutes.
See It in Action
In Session 2, you'll learn how to get the Claude for Word add-in to automatically apply custom style guide rules. Watch as it adjusts brand term spellings, capitalization conventions, and more.
