What You'll Learn

Lesson 1 – AI for Copyediting: Saving Time by Automating Routine Corrections

AI can do your first editing pass in minutes, freeing you up for a more refined second pass. You'll learn strategies to focus prompts specifically for a copyeditor's needs, customizable prompt templates for copyediting tasks, and methods to increase AI transparency by getting the program to show its work.

Lesson 2 — AI for Line Editing: Structural Editing Techniques

Line editing requires precision and control. You'll learn to develop focused prompts that lead AI through individual line-editing tasks and an iterative process that gives you greater control over AI revisions, plus an introduction to AI editing tools that work inside Microsoft Word with tracked changes.

Lesson 3 — AI for Content Editing: Insights for Comprehensive Text Analysis

Automate high-level evaluations of structure, style, tone, and audience fit, then synthesize the results into a revision plan. Includes use cases for corporate communications editors, technical editors, and fiction editors.

This is a fit if you:

  • want practical AI editing techniques

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I join?

You will be emailed a receipt and a welcome email with instructions for accessing the course.

How is this different from the live Introductory  AI for Editors course?

The live course is eight lessons with live instruction, group practice, Q&A, individual feedback, and a cohort community. This self-paced course contains the three core editing lessons in an on-demand format. Same instructor, same techniques, your schedule.

Do I need AI experience?

Basic computer skills and a little familiarity with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or Gemini are all you need. The lessons teach prompting in plain language and build from there.

What do I need to buy?

Nothing else. But you will need access to ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or your workplace's internal LLM. A paid subscription is recommended.

How current is the material?

Lessons are updated several times per year. The techniques are tool-agnostic, which means they work across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and similar tools, and they hold up as AI changes.

How long do I have access?

Lifetime access, including updated versions of the lessons.

How does the community work?

You'll get access to the main AI for Editors online community as part of the Introductory AI Editing Essentials course. This is where you can ask questions, share experiments, and stay connected. Self-paced courses like AI Editing Essentials do not have a private section within the community, unlike our live courses.

How do I get my certificate?

Complete the assignment for each lesson. This will take about 60 minutes per lesson. When you complete your final assignment, you will receive your certificate of completion at the email address you used to register.

Testimonials

AI is here with us to stay and will continue to alter the way we do things, regardless of what it is we do. We can either avoid it, ignore it, complain about it, or take a more positive approach and learn how to use it. Erin shows us where we are with AI, which AI tools to use, the ethics involved, and much more.

Yes. You can request a full refund up to 14 days after the course begins.

Absolutely! Groups of five or more are eligible for a group discount. Email Support@AIForEditors.Com to learn more.

How is this different from Building AI Assistants?

Advanced AI Prompting for Editors is about the craft, getting reliable, reviewable results on the work you do today. Building AI Assistants is about infrastructure, automating those results so they run without you. The knowledge documents you build in this course are exactly what Building AI Assistants teaches you to automate, so many editors take them in sequence. Either delivers value on its own; start with whichever fits your needs now.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. We cover technical concepts like XML and Markdown as content labeling techniques rather than code.

Which AI tools do we use?

We focus on the major LLMs: Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar tools. Most of what you'll learn, including the 4P Framework, is universal and applies to almost any AI model.

Is there anything I need to buy for the course?

It's strongly recommended you have access to a paid individual, team, or enterprise version of Claude, Google Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Mistral.

How do I get my Certificate of Completion?

Each lesson includes an optional assignment. Complete the coursework to earn your Certificate of Completion at the end of the course.

How does the online group work?

You'll have exclusive access to the AI for Editors community during the course and afterward. It is a place to ask questions, troubleshoot, share your AI experiments, and stay connected.

How much time will it take?

Each lesson is 90 minutes; assignments take about 90 minutes. Practicing between lessons is recommended, but how much time you invest is up to you.
